Performance Tips

Optimizing PDF Files Before Import
The single biggest factor in QuickUps performance is the size of your source PDF. Optimizing it before importing can dramatically speed up processing.
Reduce File Size
- Compress images: Use PDF software to reduce image DPI to 150-200 for most print jobs
- Remove unused elements: Delete hidden layers, annotations, and embedded fonts that aren't needed
- Use PDF optimization tools: Adobe Acrobat's "Reduce File Size" or free tools like Ghostscript can shrink PDFs significantly
- Split large documents: For documents over 200 pages, consider processing in sections
Browser Best Practices
Use Recommended Browsers
QuickUps performs best on Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge). These browsers have superior memory management and PDF rendering compared to Firefox or Safari for web-based PDF processing.
Free Up System Resources
- Close unused browser tabs, especially those streaming video or running heavy web apps
- Close other applications that consume significant memory
- Consider using Chrome's built-in task manager (Shift+Esc) to identify resource-heavy tabs
QuickUps Settings for Better Performance
Adjust Preview Quality
Turn off live preview or reduce preview resolution in settings. This saves processing power during the configuration phase.
Use Page Ranges
If you only need to impose a portion of a document, use the page range selector rather than processing the entire file. You can always process additional pages in separate batches.
Hardware Considerations
- RAM: 8GB or more recommended for large files. QuickUps loads the entire PDF into memory for processing.
- SSD: Using an SSD (rather than an HDD) can improve performance when working with very large files.
- Network: A stable, fast internet connection ensures quick upload of large PDFs to the browser.
